SUPPLEMENT YOUR FAITH

“make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love” (2 Peter 1:5-7).

God hates idleness and un-fruitfulness. Many who have obtained God’s salvation for so many years are still not effective in the service of God. They have refused to live in and out the life of Christ whom they profess as their savior. Many still even doubt their salvation in God, so they have refused to eagerly make efforts in adding virtues to the faith which they have in God.

As a Christian, beloved, you have obtained God’s salvation through Christ and been numbered among His sons and daughters that you will live your life for Him (1 Corinth 5:15). He has not given you this salvation to be pampered, but that you will bear abiding fruits for His kingdom (). He wants you to add values and honor to His name and kingdom by living the life of Christ here on earth and be a partaker of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4).

Your faith without work is dead (). God expects that you should bear fruits for Him (John 15:1-2). He wants you to live and walk the way Christ did here on earth. He wants you to add great virtues to your faith in Him, to be effective and fruitful. Below are explained some virtues from God’s word to supplement your faith;

  • Virtue
  • Knowledge
  • Self-control
  • Steadfastness
  • Godliness
  • Brotherly Affection
  • Love

“..for if these things are yours and abound, they will keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ………”(2 Peter 1:8-11). Beloved, don’t be a spiritually barren Christian, God hates idleness and unfruitfulness, bear tangible and abiding fruits for the kingdom of God who has created you. Remain faithful and effective in Jesus Name. SHALOM!

REST FOR YOUR SOUL

“Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” Mat 11:28.

Wow, it’s another opportunity of life [a new year], a year with great expectations. This year owes a lot of individuals, groups, businesses, families, government e.t.c much expectation. It even seems so amazing, that many have tied so many great and better things to this year months ago. We can see government making policies, economic institutions making reforms, students hoping for advancement, families making plans, business men and women hoping for better sales and many more.

It is good for us, as human to make plans ahead of time, set goals or hope for better things in life. In fact, our heavenly father, God, is a perfect planner. He makes arrangements of excellent things for His beloved sons and daughters (Jer. 29:11) and even for His kingdom, which will be made manifested at a particular time or season.

Nevertheless, what matters most is how those plans will be carried out, what and what will be used and who and who will be involved. People have different intentions on how to make sure their plans are executed and goals met. Most people are even ever ready to give it all it will take, whether good or bad, so as to make plans become a reality. So many people, being too ambitious and greedy are even ready to follow devious and crooked means. Some cheat, steal, rig, join occult groups, kill, join bad friends and disregard God, their maker, so as to achieve certain plans (Prov. 14:12). Some trust in their skills, self-strength, wisdom, people, god-fathers, sugar-daddy/mummy and the likes of them so as to achieve set goals/plans (Psa. 20:7-8).

Beloved, which way have you made up your mind to follow in achieving your plans? Are you even sure if those things are God’s divine plans for your life?Hope you will not be among those who are willing to follow any-how way, either godly or ungodly. Who do you intend to follow as you journey on (Jer. 17-5-6)? To achieve God’s right plans for your life and become greater this year, you need more of the man JESUS (John 14:6, 1 Pt 3:10-12). It is only in Him that you can have God’s purpose for your life achieved and destiny fulfilled, you need Him first.

All other ways like mentioned above, are burdensome and will surely lead your wonderful life into great destruction. The way of Christ is light and easy to bear. Beloved, you are urged this day to please draw your entire life nearer to Jesus (James 4:7-8), submit all plans, goals, expectations and burdens of your life to Him. He wants to give you rest. Only for you to learn from Him, cultivate an intimate relationship with Him, do His perfect will and you will have rest for your soul (Mat 11:28-30). Please come nearer, He will shine His light into your life (John 8:12) and make you great in life (Isa 55:2-3). He loves you, love Him too and see how He will work wonders in your life. Shalom!

Note: “Those who will diligently seek and follow the Lord, shall be a wonder to their generation”

PRAYING FOR JERUSALEM

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, may they prosper who love you” –Psalm122:6.

The above bible passage is not new to most bible readers, but it is obvious that it has become difficult for most so-called followers of Christ to put it into practice. Jerusalem as we all know is the capital city of Israel. The bible told us that the city of Jerusalem was a city that God divinely choose to dwell; therefore it is a blessed and secured city [Psalm 46:4-7]. So, for this discussion, we will use the city of Jerusalem to mean; ‘anything good, which seems like a great treasure to our Christian faith, which without it our peace and joy may not be complete’.

The following are some of the necessary Jerusalem that we, as followers of Christ, ought to be concerned and praying for daily, aside our own personal prayer requests, during our individual or co-operate prayer times;

  1. Our Nation: in the bible passage read [vs 6], King David was praying for his own city Jerusalem. This is telling us that as Christians, it is part of our obligation to pray always for our dear nation Nigeria and other nations that need our prayers. The word of God says in Matthew 16:19 that; “whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven”. This is a special grace God has given to us as Christians. Therefore, it is our duty to always pray concerning everything in this country (our leadership, economy, security, education etc). God has given us the power and authority to right every wrong in this nation and even the world at large, so let us begin to use them effectively.
  2. The Church: verse 9 of the passage read says; “for the sake of the house of the LORD our GOD, I will seek your good”. The church of God in Nigeria today and all over the world is facing much threat which has turned/are turning it to something else. Ungodliness and strange doctrines are taking over the church of God. The devil is using so many spirits, beings and demons to fight against the church of God and Christian faith, whereas we the Christians have become less-concerned about this. Instead, we are so busy running from pillar to posts looking for what is not lost; things that could have come easily to us even without asking for or running after them [Mat 6:33]. It is our duty to be praying for the church of God. Even our Lord Jesus in John 17 prayed for the church, so who are we His followers not to emulate Him. Remember, He asked a yet-to-be answered question in Luke 18:8 saying;”Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will He find faith on earth?” Brethren, what are you doing as a Christian to fight the good fight of faith and keep it? How are you preparing to make sure a sound Christian Faith is passed-on to the next generation? Also remember that the past generations before you were unable to give an answer to Jesus’ question, but they maximized the grace and strength of God to keep the Faith of Salvation and make sure it is passed-on to your generation, of which you are now enjoying. Let us begin to pray for the Church of God. The Christian Faith must die in our own time!
  3. The Brethren: in the passage read, David prayed for His brethren in verse 8 saying; “For my brethren and companions’ sake, I will say Peace be within you!” This is showing us that; as genuine followers of Christ, we need to put in mind, the good and wellbeing of others. We are not to seek only our own good, but also the good of other people around us. Solomon said in Ecclesiastics 4:9 that; “Two are better than one, …and though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him. A threefold cord is not easily broken”. There is a need for us to always pray for other brethren. Those good and bad people that God has put around us are there for one purpose or another, so they so much need our prayers. Remember the greatest commandments [Luke 10:25-28].

Brethren, in summary, what the Lord is pointing out to us this time around through this pamphlet is that; we as His followers should do away with every form of Self-Centeredness. Self-centeredness is an attitude and an end-time spirit as well [2 Tim 3:2], which we must desist from as we continue striving to achieve our goals in this life and that of the heavenly race.

Beloved, what do you think will become of you, as a true child of God, if after struggling to get everything you needed in life (e.g cars, houses, investments, job/work etc) and there happen to be no government to secure and protect them for you? Do you think you can enjoy all that you might have achieved in a society where there is no peace? Or come to think of how you are going to feel if you eventually make heaven but generations to come which will include your descendants will end their lives in eternal doom, just because they were unable to have easy access to the good Christian Faith and word of Salvation? Don’t you think you will even be restless despite your achievements if one of your close allies is suffering a dangerous problem?

Jesus said in one of His words that; “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” [Luke 12:34]. As true Christians, our Jerusalem is any good thing that is of much value and importance [treasure] to our Faith, which we should be ready to protect at all time. Finally, beloved, “The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effect [James 5:16b, 1 Peter 3:10-12]. For your prayers to have great and powerful effect on your life and on the treasures of your faith, you have to totally submit your life to the God that answers prayers. Confess your sins to Him and begin to live a righteous life by doing everything He will be asking you to do. As you will be making the resolution to begin obeying God, I decree that ‘May the eyes of the LORD continue to be upon you and all that concerns you, and May His ears be always open to your Prayers’. May we not be found wanting before the judgment throne in Jesus Name. SHALOM!

MODEL CHRIST

“…. know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God?”-James 4:4b. Most people have role models. Role models are usually loved so much by people, such that people even try to be like them by doing what they do, wearing what they wear, learning their speeches. Other things which people copy from their role models, such as hairstyles, postures, walking steps, dancing steps, talent, attitude etc.

Most believers, through the process of role modeling have loosed their place in the journey of faith. Many have copied, learn and possessed so many things which the Lord says belonged to the world from role models. The tragedy of this is that many have been enslaved by the devil through role modeling and are already dancing at the gate of hell. Many have missed-out from the way to heaven and already on their way to hell fire but still think they are on the right path to heavenly kingdom. Many have forgotten what Jesus said, that “though in the world, they do not belong to the world” (John 15). It is an error for believers and Disciples of Christ to partake in the worldly systems and activities.

This has even become worse as many who so-call themselves Christians are also engaging themselves in worldly activities, possess worldly characters and even follow worldly ideologies. They organize and attend ungodly gatherings; wear ungodly clothes; take hot drinks; listen, sing and dance to ungodly songs; watch ungodly films; utter ungodly words and following the ideology of this world that says ‘it does not matter, faith is in the earth’. They even bring these systems and many more into the church. All these are worldly and not godly, they belong to the devil and Christ is against them all. These just have to stop.

God cannot be mocked. He is angry over everyone who will not obey His principle (Isaiah 30:1). He is saying that you cannot serve God and mammon, we cannot call ourselves His children and still involve in ungodly activities (Mat 6:24). He is a jealous God. Beloved, who or what are you modeling, Christ or devil? Whose lifestyle, character, and opinion do you obey/follow, the world or the Lord? Are your dressing, speech, character, songs, hairstyle, relationship etc which you possess, for/from the Lord? Have you forgotten that light and darkness cannot be together (2 Cor. 6:14-18).

Why are you making yourself a friend of this world and an enemy to your creator? (James 4:4). No friend of the ungodly activities of this world is guaranteed heaven (Mark 3:35). God loves you dearly why won’t you love Him in return by forsaking those ungodly things of this perishing world and model the Lord Jesus alone, He wants you to be His intimate friend (2 Cor. 6:17-18). He wants you to seek and follow Him steadfastly, obediently and diligently from henceforth (Col 3:1-4). He wants you to model Him [through His word; in appearance, in character, in relationship, in speech in thought etc] and obey His instructions alone. Model the LORD and not the World. SHALOM!

LIVING WITHOUT LIFE

God is the author of life. He created Man [man and woman] in His own image and gave him a breath of life (Gen 2:7). The purpose of God performing this wondrous act was to provide a being different from animals and other being, which will be a carrier and embodiment of His glory here on earth. For this purpose to be effectively fulfilled, God had to breathe life into the body of Man. He gave Man life and spirit which will guarantee him eternal dominion, fruitfulness, blessing, joy, peace and fellowshipping with God. On the contrary, Man fortified all these for the sake of lust and pride (Gen 3:5-6). God became disappointed in Man and decided to destroy Man (Gen 6:5-7) but preserved only Noah and his family because they lived their life for His glory.

Nevertheless, God was still so much interested in the purpose for which He had created man. For this to be re-established, He had to send a mediator and propitiator {JESUS} to come bridge the wide gap existing between man and God as a result of sin (Isa 59:1-2). The savior, Jesus Christ came and brought light of life into the lives of men which Satan has darkened. But for the scripture to be fulfilled; Christ had to return to His Father’s kingdom (Luke 24:44-46). He was crucified on a shameful cross and by the power of God resurrected and ascended back to Heaven. Yet, it was still much necessary that the gap between man and God which has been bridged through the blood of Christ be maintained and sealed. For this bridging to be everlasting as God had planned it from the beginning, Christ had to pray the Father to send the Holy Spirit (John 14:16). This spirit came upon all who believed and decided to walk with Christ as He had promised (Mark 16:12). God’s happiness toward Man was restored, because the purpose for which He created Man has been regained and sealed with His Spirit.

The Holy Spirit brought back the authentic life, authority and power, given to Man by God from creation, for everlasting dominion, fruitfulness, blessing, joy, peace and fellowshipping with the creator (Rom 8:1-2). But it is so obvious that many people are missing all these. Many are missing the authentic and extra-ordinary life which the Holy Spirit gives. Many who even call themselves Christians are missing this life.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, and God does not abide in a darkened or corruptible place. He is a God of perfect holiness and righteousness. He is very much interested in our life obtaining His spirit. This is because we really need it as His children. Looking at Romans 8, without the Holy Spirit; we cannot live the extra-ordinary life which He expects from us (vs 8). Also, the holy spirit in us is an evidence that we are His children (vs 14, 16). It also gives a real life-living virtue which the devil through sin has deprived Man (vs 11,13). The Holy Spirit also helps us to really understand and do the perfect will of God at all time without any objection (vs 5-7). It helps to speak to God and hear Him when He speaks to us and live victoriously without fear (vs 15). The Holy Spirit empowers us to do all things perfectly and rightly (Acts 1:5).

Seeing all these, it is now clear that without the Holy Spirit, though Man may be physically and otherwise living, he is dead spiritually. The spiritual controls the physical, once the spirit is absent or weak, then other aspects of Man’s life will be in danger and unsecured. As believers in Christ, we need the spirit of God. Life in the flesh is death (Rom 8:13). If we must walk and work with the Lord effectively and gloriously in this journey of faith, then we need the divine presence of the Almighty (Judges 6:14-16), we need the HOLY SPIRIT to take full charge and control of our entire life. We must allow it to guide and direct us in all we do; in thought, speech, dressing, listening, watching, relationships, actions, decision and everything of our life. It is this spirit living in us that can carry us through all trials and grant us hope of glory (Col. 1:27). We need it!

God wants us to obtain this spirit, walk and live by it always. Beloved, are you ready to receive this spirit? Please kindly ; accept God’s love for you and be consecrated to Him today, kneel before Him in prayers, humble your heart before Him, confess and ask Him for forgiveness and sanctification, ask for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and continue with the Lord in total obedience to the voice of His spirit (Joel 2:28-29). May you continue to enjoy the power of His divine presence in Jesus Name. SHALOM!

HE CARES

Cast all your anxieties {fears} on Him, for He cares about you” -1 Peter 5:7. This Bible quote of those quotes that should strengthen the faith of many, but it is usually forgotten by most people [even Christians]. This passage helps one to build more confidence and reliance on God, our Maker.

The text in quote carries the message of the extra-ordinary love that the Father [God] has for His beloved children. It talks about the power of God’s care and love for the things He has created. This kind of care surpasses that which a mother may have for her own child {Isaiah 49:14-16}, and greater than such which a Fulani man can have for his cattle. This kind of love is not even worth compared with any other, not even such that exists between husbands and wives or fiancées and fiancés. This kind of love and care can only be found in God , just as it was revealed through His beloved Son, Jesus{Rom. 5:8}.

Beloved, are you depressed and weighed down with one trouble and challenge or the other? Kindly tell it to the One who created, own, love and care for you. He can feel what you are also feeling right now. He knows all your worries and challenges. He can see how troubled, grieved and helpless you have been.

He wants to help you. He wants to settle your own case, even as He Has settled issues for many who have cried to Him for Help [e.g Daniel, Moses, Paul and Silas, Hannah etc]. He wants to deliver your life from the power of Sin, Self and Satan, so that you will have peace on every side and be living a joyful life {Job 5:8-16}.

Only for you to believe and accept the power of His Love and Care for your life {John 14:1} by; submitting your life in totality to His Lordship {1 Peter 5:6} and laying all your worries, problems, challenges and fears at His feet daily in prevailing prayers {Mark 11:22-25, Mat. 7:7-8}. God loves you, kindly commit yourself to seeking His face daily {Josh. 1:8-9, Isa. 58:8-9}. As you are obeying His word, May the Lord hear you when you cry, and may He grant you rest on every side in Jesus Name! SHALOM.

“Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayers and supplications with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, that passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”

Note: What a needless pains and burdens we often bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
