LOVEST THOU ME?

“JESUS SAID UNTO HIM THE THIRD TIME, LOVEST THOU ME? AND HE SAID UNTO HIM, LORD THOU KNOWS ALL THINGS; THOU KNOWS THAT I LOVE THEE” -JOHN 21:17.

The present day church is filled with so many congregants with less genuine love for God. Many who call themselves Christians are lacking genuine love for God. The church is now populated with more crowd-followers than Christ-followers. Most people of this days who call themselves Christians and go to church, are just trying to show some sense of belonging to a particular religion or association. Many have being in church for several years without a transformed life to show for it. Most of us are people with little-or-no revelations of God and His kingdom, not to talk of loving Him and desiring it.

Same was the situation of some of the first disciples of Jesus. They had been dining and wining with Jesus, they had being with Him for not-less-than three years, yet it seems as if they were just following Him, without genuine revelation of His ministry and love for Him. It seems to be so serious that Jesus had to say to one of them thus; “For a long time I have being with you, yet you do not know Me?” (John 14:5-11). Remembering this shocking discovery, I believe, prompted the Lord Jesus in John 21:12-18, to repeatedly ask Oga Peter how much he loved Him and God’s kingdom work.

Beloved, do you also genuinely love the Lord with your whole heart, or you are just also following Him with the crowd? With the way you are living your life presently, can the Lord testify that you genuinely love God and His kingdom? How can you be sure of this? The yardstick for those who love God was proclaimed by Jesus, thus; ”If you love Me, you will obey my instructions”. He also clamoured saying; “those who accept my instructions and obey them are the ones who love Me. God will love those who love Me, I too will love them and reveal myself to them” [John 14:15-22].

He is also asking you today just as He asked Mr Peter; LOVEST THOU ME? How are you handling His instructions? Do you love God and His kingdom genuinely? Are you determined to stand firm in Him and for Him even when you are surrounded with challenges? Beloved, God; whom created you loves you dearly, He is expecting you to love Him genuinely, so that He can greatly manifest Himself to you [John 14:23-24]. Please, repent from all your evil and sinful lifestyles and begin to obey God’s instructions [read also, 1 John 2and3]. Begin to genuinely love Him, His Kingdom and His people and eternal Peace will be yours forever in Jesus’ Name. Shalom!

TURN BACK!!!

“There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end leads to death and destruction” –Proverbs 14:12.

It has never being to the joy and good pleasure of any good and Godly parent to see any of their children walking in a way that will lead to a destructive end. Every good parent does wish and want that their children live a life of good report. No Godly parent would wish their children a bad and troubled future. But to the surprise of most parents, most children are proving stubborn and disobedient to good moral instructions and training.

Same was the situation of a particular man who lived long-ago. He had much wealth and was also blessed with two brilliant, hardworking and handsome sons; Paul, the elder and Peter, the younger. He also had so many servants who were working for him. This man showed fatherly love and care to them all, such that none of them ever lacked any need. But on a certain day, Peter, after listening to his friends’ advice that he is now a big boy, he can now live his life the way he so much desires and not to be controlled by anyone. They also told him to force himself out of his loving father’s authority. Then he went to meet his father at night and said to him thus; Dad, I am now a big boy, I also want to live a free life just like my colleagues out there. So give me my own share of your wealth. The father tried to advice Peter that his decision could land him in regret, he also told him he had better plans for him than his immediate request, but he didn’t listen, instead he threatened his father. Seeing this, the father had to give him his request.

He collected and sold them, and went away with the cash abroad to catch fun with his friends. Though he made little investment, but out of carelessness, about five years later, he squandered everything and was also jilted by his so-called friends until nothing was left. Then, his friends (even his beautiful girl-friend) all left him, and he became a fine-beggar. Life became miserable for him that he began to regret his decision. He became helpless, so he thought of going back to become a servant to one of his father’s servants and start a good-new life, because he knew his father no-longer owe him a dime. What a miserable end-result of disobedience. An adage in Yoruba says; ‘The words of the wise old people, if it does not occur in the morning, it will surely occur at night’ But, on getting back home, he was received back by his beloved father who had expected him to turn back from his disobedient decision and come back to him.

Oh beloved reader of this pamphlet, are you not also beginning to embark on a journey that can lead you to destruction? What kind of friends or relationship are you keeping, are you sure it is not the type that can lead you astray and make you commit the unwanted? Haven’t you also begin to reject Godly counsel of people whom you now begin to think hates you, and following the ungodly advice from those you think likes you?

Are you not also joining other guys and babes on the road of smoking (damages the lungs), alcoholic drinking (damages the liver), stealing (shame and imprisonment), cheating people, carousing, fighting (disable), ungodly songs/movies (corrupts the mind), lying (shame), ungodly parties, stubbornness, cursing (fights back), arrogance, ungodly dressing (rape victim), fornication (unwanted pregnancy), adultery (sexually transmitted diseases), pride (leads to destruction), homosexuality (14years in prison), laziness (leads to poverty), abortion (barrenness or death), cultism (death sentence in prison), terrorism (life-imprisonment) and other bad characters? Listen, aside the earthly destruction that can befall all people on this road, if death meets them on this road, eternal fire will be their portion [Galatians 5:19-24, 6:7-8].

God, whom is your heavenly Father, loves you dearly even more than anyone could prove to love you [Jeremiah 31:3]. Like that rich man to his sons, God’s plans for you are good and great, more excellent than you’ve ever imagined [Jeremiah 29:11]. But the problem is that; His hand of divine help cannot reach you if you will still continue following the way where your Self-desires, Sin and Satan rules [Isaiah 59:1-2]. You will have to TURN BACK from the evil ways that leads to destruction and come to God’s way where Holiness, Righteousness and Jesus rules which leads to divine blessings and eternal rest [1 Peter 3:10-12]. Can you please come back to the way of the giver and owner of your life? If ready, say this prayer; “My creator and my heavenly Father, please have mercy and forgive me for following the way that leads to destruction. I am deciding today to turn back from my sinful ways and following your own way. I accept the Lordship of your Son Jesus over my life. Please help me to overcome the power of my old ways in Jesus’ Name” If you have genuinely said this prayer, then I join the Heavenly Hosts and God’s people to welcome you into the Way that leads to Life and not to destruction. SHALOM!

SUPPLEMENT YOUR FAITH

“make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love” (2 Peter 1:5-7).

God hates idleness and un-fruitfulness. Many who have obtained God’s salvation for so many years are still not effective in the service of God. They have refused to live in and out the life of Christ whom they profess as their savior. Many still even doubt their salvation in God, so they have refused to eagerly make efforts in adding virtues to the faith which they have in God.

As a Christian, beloved, you have obtained God’s salvation through Christ and been numbered among His sons and daughters that you will live your life for Him (1 Corinth 5:15). He has not given you this salvation to be pampered, but that you will bear abiding fruits for His kingdom (). He wants you to add values and honor to His name and kingdom by living the life of Christ here on earth and be a partaker of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4).

Your faith without work is dead (). God expects that you should bear fruits for Him (John 15:1-2). He wants you to live and walk the way Christ did here on earth. He wants you to add great virtues to your faith in Him, to be effective and fruitful. Below are explained some virtues from God’s word to supplement your faith;

  • Virtue
  • Knowledge
  • Self-control
  • Steadfastness
  • Godliness
  • Brotherly Affection
  • Love

“..for if these things are yours and abound, they will keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ………”(2 Peter 1:8-11). Beloved, don’t be a spiritually barren Christian, God hates idleness and unfruitfulness, bear tangible and abiding fruits for the kingdom of God who has created you. Remain faithful and effective in Jesus Name. SHALOM!

REST FOR YOUR SOUL

“Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” Mat 11:28.

Wow, it’s another opportunity of life [a new year], a year with great expectations. This year owes a lot of individuals, groups, businesses, families, government e.t.c much expectation. It even seems so amazing, that many have tied so many great and better things to this year months ago. We can see government making policies, economic institutions making reforms, students hoping for advancement, families making plans, business men and women hoping for better sales and many more.

It is good for us, as human to make plans ahead of time, set goals or hope for better things in life. In fact, our heavenly father, God, is a perfect planner. He makes arrangements of excellent things for His beloved sons and daughters (Jer. 29:11) and even for His kingdom, which will be made manifested at a particular time or season.

Nevertheless, what matters most is how those plans will be carried out, what and what will be used and who and who will be involved. People have different intentions on how to make sure their plans are executed and goals met. Most people are even ever ready to give it all it will take, whether good or bad, so as to make plans become a reality. So many people, being too ambitious and greedy are even ready to follow devious and crooked means. Some cheat, steal, rig, join occult groups, kill, join bad friends and disregard God, their maker, so as to achieve certain plans (Prov. 14:12). Some trust in their skills, self-strength, wisdom, people, god-fathers, sugar-daddy/mummy and the likes of them so as to achieve set goals/plans (Psa. 20:7-8).

Beloved, which way have you made up your mind to follow in achieving your plans? Are you even sure if those things are God’s divine plans for your life?Hope you will not be among those who are willing to follow any-how way, either godly or ungodly. Who do you intend to follow as you journey on (Jer. 17-5-6)? To achieve God’s right plans for your life and become greater this year, you need more of the man JESUS (John 14:6, 1 Pt 3:10-12). It is only in Him that you can have God’s purpose for your life achieved and destiny fulfilled, you need Him first.

All other ways like mentioned above, are burdensome and will surely lead your wonderful life into great destruction. The way of Christ is light and easy to bear. Beloved, you are urged this day to please draw your entire life nearer to Jesus (James 4:7-8), submit all plans, goals, expectations and burdens of your life to Him. He wants to give you rest. Only for you to learn from Him, cultivate an intimate relationship with Him, do His perfect will and you will have rest for your soul (Mat 11:28-30). Please come nearer, He will shine His light into your life (John 8:12) and make you great in life (Isa 55:2-3). He loves you, love Him too and see how He will work wonders in your life. Shalom!

Note: “Those who will diligently seek and follow the Lord, shall be a wonder to their generation”

PRAYING FOR JERUSALEM

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, may they prosper who love you” –Psalm122:6.

The above bible passage is not new to most bible readers, but it is obvious that it has become difficult for most so-called followers of Christ to put it into practice. Jerusalem as we all know is the capital city of Israel. The bible told us that the city of Jerusalem was a city that God divinely choose to dwell; therefore it is a blessed and secured city [Psalm 46:4-7]. So, for this discussion, we will use the city of Jerusalem to mean; ‘anything good, which seems like a great treasure to our Christian faith, which without it our peace and joy may not be complete’.

The following are some of the necessary Jerusalem that we, as followers of Christ, ought to be concerned and praying for daily, aside our own personal prayer requests, during our individual or co-operate prayer times;

  1. Our Nation: in the bible passage read [vs 6], King David was praying for his own city Jerusalem. This is telling us that as Christians, it is part of our obligation to pray always for our dear nation Nigeria and other nations that need our prayers. The word of God says in Matthew 16:19 that; “whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven”. This is a special grace God has given to us as Christians. Therefore, it is our duty to always pray concerning everything in this country (our leadership, economy, security, education etc). God has given us the power and authority to right every wrong in this nation and even the world at large, so let us begin to use them effectively.
  2. The Church: verse 9 of the passage read says; “for the sake of the house of the LORD our GOD, I will seek your good”. The church of God in Nigeria today and all over the world is facing much threat which has turned/are turning it to something else. Ungodliness and strange doctrines are taking over the church of God. The devil is using so many spirits, beings and demons to fight against the church of God and Christian faith, whereas we the Christians have become less-concerned about this. Instead, we are so busy running from pillar to posts looking for what is not lost; things that could have come easily to us even without asking for or running after them [Mat 6:33]. It is our duty to be praying for the church of God. Even our Lord Jesus in John 17 prayed for the church, so who are we His followers not to emulate Him. Remember, He asked a yet-to-be answered question in Luke 18:8 saying;”Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will He find faith on earth?” Brethren, what are you doing as a Christian to fight the good fight of faith and keep it? How are you preparing to make sure a sound Christian Faith is passed-on to the next generation? Also remember that the past generations before you were unable to give an answer to Jesus’ question, but they maximized the grace and strength of God to keep the Faith of Salvation and make sure it is passed-on to your generation, of which you are now enjoying. Let us begin to pray for the Church of God. The Christian Faith must die in our own time!
  3. The Brethren: in the passage read, David prayed for His brethren in verse 8 saying; “For my brethren and companions’ sake, I will say Peace be within you!” This is showing us that; as genuine followers of Christ, we need to put in mind, the good and wellbeing of others. We are not to seek only our own good, but also the good of other people around us. Solomon said in Ecclesiastics 4:9 that; “Two are better than one, …and though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him. A threefold cord is not easily broken”. There is a need for us to always pray for other brethren. Those good and bad people that God has put around us are there for one purpose or another, so they so much need our prayers. Remember the greatest commandments [Luke 10:25-28].

Brethren, in summary, what the Lord is pointing out to us this time around through this pamphlet is that; we as His followers should do away with every form of Self-Centeredness. Self-centeredness is an attitude and an end-time spirit as well [2 Tim 3:2], which we must desist from as we continue striving to achieve our goals in this life and that of the heavenly race.

Beloved, what do you think will become of you, as a true child of God, if after struggling to get everything you needed in life (e.g cars, houses, investments, job/work etc) and there happen to be no government to secure and protect them for you? Do you think you can enjoy all that you might have achieved in a society where there is no peace? Or come to think of how you are going to feel if you eventually make heaven but generations to come which will include your descendants will end their lives in eternal doom, just because they were unable to have easy access to the good Christian Faith and word of Salvation? Don’t you think you will even be restless despite your achievements if one of your close allies is suffering a dangerous problem?

Jesus said in one of His words that; “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” [Luke 12:34]. As true Christians, our Jerusalem is any good thing that is of much value and importance [treasure] to our Faith, which we should be ready to protect at all time. Finally, beloved, “The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effect [James 5:16b, 1 Peter 3:10-12]. For your prayers to have great and powerful effect on your life and on the treasures of your faith, you have to totally submit your life to the God that answers prayers. Confess your sins to Him and begin to live a righteous life by doing everything He will be asking you to do. As you will be making the resolution to begin obeying God, I decree that ‘May the eyes of the LORD continue to be upon you and all that concerns you, and May His ears be always open to your Prayers’. May we not be found wanting before the judgment throne in Jesus Name. SHALOM!
